Brentford Football Club, commonly known as "The Bees," is a professional football club based in Brentford, West London, England. They currently compete in the Premier League, the highest tier of English football. Founded in 1889, the club played their home matches at Griffin Park from 1904 until relocating to the Gtech Community Stadium in 2020. Their main rivals include Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, both fellow West London-based clubs. Brentford Women FC is the affiliated women's club. Initially starting as an amateur team, Brentford joined the London League in 1896 and quickly rose through the ranks, finishing as runners-up in the Second Division and then the First Division, which earned them promotion to the Southern League in 1898. They clinched the Southern League Second Division title in 1900-01 and were subsequently elected into the Football League in 1920. Brentford went on to win the Third Division South title in 1932-33 and the Second Division title in 1934-35. During their successful stint in the top flight, they achieved their highest-ever league finish of fifth in the First Division during the 1935-36 season. However, a series of relegations saw them drop to the Fourth Division by 1962. Brentford bounced back by securing the Fourth Division championship in 1962-63, but experienced further relegations in 1966 and 1973 after a promotion in 1971-72. They spent 14 seasons in the Third Division following their promotion in 1977-78 and won the Third Division title in 1991-92, only to be relegated again in 1993. In 1998, Brentford suffered relegation to the fourth tier but immediately won promotion as champions in the 1998-99 campaign. They were relegated again in 2007 but secured promotion as League Two champions in 2008-09. Subsequently, they achieved promotion from League One in 2013-14. Although they had unsuccessful Championship play-off campaigns in 2015 and 2020, Brentford struggled in finals, finishing as runners-up in three Associate Members' Cup/Football League Trophy finals (1985, 2001, and 2011) and losing four play-off finals (the 1997 Second Division final, 2002 Second Division final, 2013 League One final, and 2020 Championship final). However, Brentford finally triumphed in the 2021 Championship final, earning promotion to the top level for the first time since the 1946-47 season.
